Over the last few years people have come to realise the advantages of shopping online. Although you occasionally hear the odd horror story considering the huge number of items sold over the Internet there are comparatively few problems.
In this article there are 7 tips to help you get the most out of Internet shopping.
Tip 1. Unless you know exactly which site you want to use go to the Google search engine and type in the name or type of product that you are searching for. You should find not only a selection of sites offering the product you are interested in for sale but also product comparison sites. These give you an opportunity to compare prices and read product reviews.
Tip 2. Having selected the item that you want to buy make sure that you check if there are any shipping costs or tax to be added to the sale price. Most sales site use some type of "shopping cart" system so once you are happy that you know exactly what you are buying and the price click on the "Add to Cart" button.
Tip 3. If there is a choice of colour, size or other specific details make sure that enter the correct details in the relevant spaces. Once you are happy that all the details are correct and you don't wish to buy anything else from the site click the "Proceed to Payment" button.
Tip 4. You are now getting to the serious part were you going to make a payment and give credit card details. Therefore is essential that you check that the site you are using has a secure server. You can tell this by looking at the URL in the top of the browser box on the payment page. If it begins https:// then it is a secure server but if it starts http:// it is not. You now have two options, you can either stop the transaction there and then or if the company gives a telephone number on its site you can call them and make the payment over the phone.
Tip 5. At this stage you will have to enter your credit card details and email address. When you have done this an order confirmation page should appear which includes all the details of your order. Once you have checked this and are happy that the details are correct you can confirm it and the payment will go through.
Tip 6. Having placed your order you should receive a confirmation email from the seller. Again check that the details are correct and make sure that you either print off the email or at least keep it on your computer until the goods arrive.
Tip 7. One final tip is make sure that you know where the items are being sent from. In some cases you may think you are dealing with a company based in your home country when in fact they may operate from abroad. Also because of tax differences it may appear a lot cheaper to buy from an overseas web site. However, you should realise that items purchased over the Internet are still subject to any import tax that might apply. Therefore what appears a bargain could turn out to be more expensive than you expected.
Providing you exercise caution and common sense you can make real savings in money and time by buying online
