Anri Sonohara Tribute

Tribute to one of my Favorite Characters in Durarara!! - Anri Sonohara, (Taken from Wikipedia) A bespectacled girl who attends the same school as Mikado and Masaomi. She is rather quiet and timid, but seems very close towards Kida and Mikado, but sometimes she tends to enclose herself. Though she knows Mikado's feelings for her, she considers him no more than a "good friend". She is very busty and cute, which makes her somehow popular, even though she feels uneasy about it. She feels as if she needs to rely on somebody to move on. Instead of Niekawa Haruna, Anri is revealed to be the real owner of the blade "Saika" and she has shown great control over it as she is not possessed by it. This is due to a traumatic experience in her childhood that made her unable to love. This negates Saika's "love" for humans and thus makes Anri able to control the blade. She seems to be a skilled swordman, being able to handle Saika with great skill. After defeating Haruna, she gained control over the "Saika-children" that Haruna created. After a talk with Celty, she decides to use this ability for the best of the city.

What Action Figures Are Collectible?

What's Collectible? How do you know which action figures are collectible or will be collectible? Much of it is guess work or gut feeling. Part of it is an educated guess. A big part is knowing your market and target audience. So...

What added guidance and help can I give you? In short this simple guide is to help YOU make the decision based on my 15 years in the business. The simplest, easiest and biggest piece of advice I can give you is to remember:

"Today's toys are tomorrow's collectibles" Let me clarify that statement a little more. What are the kids into NOW? What drives their imagination? What games, cartoons, and comic books do they want? Which toys, games etc. will be the number one on this years Christmas lists?

These are the thing that are likely to be the collectibles of the future, the things that will be selling good money in another 10-20 years.

Why? Simply, because the collectors market is basically driven by nostalgia. Look at today's most valuable and collectible items. They're generally what were popular when we were kids (or at least when I was a kid!).

Good examples of this are they huge market for Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween and Chucky collectibles. All of these are huge cult movies from the 80's.

Then there are the Star Wars toys and Pokemon collectibles. G.I. Joes, Action Man, He-Man, Masters of the Universe and Thunderbirds.

It's the memories attached to these toys and programs that makes them collectible now, as well as the desire to have what we couldn't have as kids.

So, what do I think will be tomorrow's hot collectibles?

Looking at today's markets I would think that the anime/manga series Naruto and Bleach will become more popular and collectible over the coming years as well as other popular anime series such as Ghost in the Shell.

Also popular video games such as Gears of War, Warcraft, Halo and Guitar Hero have a considerable amount of merchandise available, many of which are highly collectible and are likely to remain popular for many years yet.

Oh... And I nearly forgot about Ben 10. Ben 10 is another TV animation series that seems to have become popular recently and captured kids' imaginations.

And don't forget about normal, everyday items. Many of these are likely to become highly sought after and collectible as well.

A prime example of this phenomenon is the old Robinson jam jar labels. These featured a golliwog and were on EVERY jar produced back in the 70's.Thousands upon thousands were produced every year.

Now they sell for about $500 simply because they were banned. But who saved or collected them? Virtually no-one, because they were so common, an everyday item. Again it's the nostalgia and memories associated with them that drives' the market and demand.

Do you remember any of the toys you had? Do you still have any of them? Where are they now? By our very nature, as kids we want to play with our toys, we aren't interested in keeping them safe and undamaged or even collecting them.

They were there to be played with. They were banged and bashed about, thrown around and mostly destroyed, broken and thrown out over the ensuing years. It's only now that we look back to them with the fondness of memories and a longing for our lost childhood.

So again it's often these things that become collectible and valuable. OK, so what about limited editions, low production runs or chase and variant action figures, cards, stamps, toys or whatever that are produced today?

Again these are generally targeted at today's collectors so are often based on past or vintage subjects, e.g. Star Wars, Thunderbirds, Elvis Presley, Battlestar Galactica etc.

Some will target new toys, games, current trends or popular items such as Gears of War, Halo or even movies such as Hellboy.

These items will often be highly collectible initially due to their current popularity and high demand but will general see a dip in value after a few years and as new trends take their place, but...

If they became a popular part of our culture and, or childhood experiences they will generally gain in value again in the long term.

A very good example of this is the Pokemon cards. In the mid 90's they were HUGE, so big in fact that I would say that every child in the world ever knew or had heard about them. Even kids in the poorest parts of Brazil were trading the cards.

But eventually, something else came along. The kids grew up and its popularity dwindled.

But now after ten years it is regularly back in the top 30 searches each month. Prices of the cards are selling at a brisk rate on the auction sites and the demand for the old stuff is increasing. So, if you have an old Pokemon collection tucked away, maybe its time to dust it down!

This is because the kids who collected and bought it then are now "grown up" and look back at the fun days of collecting them and maybe getting some of them back again.

I know I certainly do. At the time I was BIG on Pokemon. I had them ALL! I even had an Illustrator Pikachu and a Secret Mewto, two of THE rarest cards.

But alas, being a trader I sold them all of, but now...

I often wish I had saved a few.

Another piece of advice is to look for niche markets. A niche market is a specialist market. If you can find a small "niche" that has a loyal following then again these are likely to become highly collectible simple because although there is a lot less demand the supply or amount of product available will also be a lot scarcer and therefore more likely to become collectible or valuable.

In the long term, if you "invest" in the right things, the return in 10-20 years can be huge. Certainly better than the average return on your bank savings.

So, in order to decide what will hold it's value or increase in value you should consider:

What's popular now.
Check the top comics, cartoons, TV programmes, films etc and look for the common themes.
What are popular household items?
What games or toys do your kids and friends want and trash?
What are the popular niche markets?
What has become part of our everyday lives, a part of our culture, our language (an excellent example here would be Google, even the term "to Google" something has become common) ?
Consider the answers to these questions, these are the things that are likely to hold their prices and increase in value over the years.

Hidden Messages Inside Anime

Anime is one of the best things that could possibly happen to television. Since its debut outside Japan, anime has reeled in millions and millions of fans. However, there are those that remain skeptical of anime, thinking of it only as a glammed up version of the typical cartoons that we see on TV. They take one look at the too perfect faces, the out of his world costumes, and the quintessential talking animals and they immediately dismiss anime as childish. Well, we as watchers of anime know that there's much more to anime beneath its cartoonish façade.

There are several hidden messages in anime, messages that speak directly to the soul, messages about life's lessons and truths. They might be hard to see at face value but if you look past all the humor and all the drama, you'll see that what the characters are going through, be it a robot invasion or one-on-one battle with a dragon, are essentially the same things that we're going through... just translated into fantasy. And every obstacle they encounter, every moral dilemma they face, we can relate to in some way or another.

Take Naruto for example. He is a young orphan boy who has been ostracized by his village for having a demon fox sealed inside of him. Now, I doubt that any of you who are reading this have demon foxes sealed inside of you. But I can bet that some of you have felt ostracized, unwanted, underestimated, and utterly alone at some point in your lives. And even when all you want is a bit of acknowledgement, nobody seems to want to give it to you. And here's where Naruto's hidden message comes in... it's a challenge to all of us, to do what Naruto is currently doing: never giving up. It's a challenge for us to take on his nindo and to never back out on our own words.

Almost all of the characters have hidden messages within their own stories and backgrounds. Take Zabuza, he is portrayed as a heartless killer, a villain, someone whom we are programmed to hate. And yet, at the final moments of his life, it is revealed that despite all his brusqueness, he is still human, like all of us. And he knows how to value and be grateful to those he loves. The message in this is clear, those who have done several misdeeds are still human, and we owe it to them and to ourselves to coax the humanity out of them.

And it's not just the characters that are worth looking into either. The themes and plots of several anime deserve a lot of praise for their insight and ingeniousness. Look at the anime Deathnote, if you take it at face value, it's nothing more than just a very well-written and well-portrayed thriller, complete with some of the best plot twists ever concocted in anime history. But if you look at its theme, you'll see that it's about the classic debate on justice... is it just to kill evil men for the sake of protecting those who are good? Or should we allow evil men to live on the premise that they're human like all of us? It's even reminiscent of the age-old debate about the death penalty. Do we really have the right to kill another human being?

Indeed, the hidden messages in anime are very thought provoking and it fosters self analysis at many levels. They might just change the way we view our lives if we take a more serious approach to them and utilize its life provoking lesson to make our society a better place. Yes, all in all it's just anime but the power that it brings onto the table should never be underestimated.

Roach Gigz - Ay Boy Boy ft. Pac B Prod. C-Loz [Download + Review]

Download after review: In the box we have Roach Gigz' song 'Ay Boy Boy'. But first a recommendation: All music should be viewed in the context of its culture, and if not it will be misunderstood. The culture at hand is the ever-wavering, perceived retarded step-child of hip-hop - The Bay Area. Occasionally, the area births someone who completely personifies the attitudes, beliefs and lifestyles of said culture. Roach Gigz is one of these people and should be commended for it. He's not reinventing the area, but bringing it new life. The song Ay Boy Boy is produced by the always synth-bass-heavy producer C-Loz. Though one of the least creative producers when compared to music in it's entirety, he does what he does best. Making glass-shattering bay area anthems, overshadowing (by a huge margin) the previous production star of the Bay; Traxamillion. This track is no different. When viewed in the context of Bay Area culture, C-Loz hits it perfect. The song aims to make its listeners move, and it does just that. Then we have Roach Gigz crawling onto the track with, "I'm from the city, I'm lightweight mainey". Roach is a vocally-elastic rapper with 1% focus, 9% lyricism, and 90% Roach. I could bring myself to write a scathing review of his lack of technical rapping skill; But that's not what he's aiming for. Why knock someone who missed the target when he was really aiming for the clouds all along? Roach makes fun music, and this is no different. He personifies intoxication ...

Japanese Animation

Usually, we look for various things to get us out of our bored state. One of the best things to do is to watch cartoons, but ordinary cartoons have lost their taste and we are now turning to new forms of animated cartoons which are drawing more people all the time. Japanese Animations are these kinds of cartoons that are getting great interest.

Though most of these Japanese Animation are hand drawn you will find that nowadays they are more of computer generated or animated as well. Most of these animations are a mixture of fantasy, fiction and some facts. You will find that they can involve characters like those of old stories, such as fairies and elves but they are more in the modern times with cars being involved as well as cellular phones.

You will find that Japanese Animation include several historical backgrounds of the Japanese with samurai's being headline features in many of the cartoons that are featured on the internet or on television. The storyline will probably not be dated such as the cartoon Naruto, which is not dated but the setting is clearly of olden times in Japan, however they use modern instruments sometimes and most of the characters do not look like Japanese at all.

Many of these Japanese animations are really cool to watch because even though they are not all in English but in Japanese, they captivate us with ever series and episode that you do not want to stop watching. Though when the anime is in English, it kinda spoils the plot of the show because it loses its originality and plot.

Anime Designs

If you are one of those people who are addicted to anime shows and games, you would probably be interested with sites who offer free anime computer wallpapers. This will surely catch your attention because the pictures and images are huge and life-like so it is just encountering them personally.

One example of this site is the animewallpapers.com, whose main aim is to provide free desktop backgrounds and free desktop wallpapers featuring anime characters and themes. Even if its offerings are free, the products it gives its viewers and users are truly noteworthy. They maintain their quality service so that any people will continue browsing and using their site. Every piece of design and art are carefully placed in their site to be able to stress or put emphasis on them. This site usually is visited by children whose ages range from 8-13 because they are the audiences of these anime cartoons and drawings. But even young adolescents are also interested with these kinds of characters probably because they still watch anime shows on television.

My nephew Justin is one big fanatic of anime and he likes posting big tarpaulins of these characters on his wall. And so when his mother bought him a new laptop I immediately gave him a couple of my anime wallpapers. He was truly happy and he immediately used one of those computer wallpapers as his desktop background. It was a picture of his favorite anime character Naruto, whose TV episodes he never missed. He really enjoyed the free wallpapers I gave him and became so curious where I got those free desktop backgrounds and free desktop wallpapers. I was not selfish not to share with him the source of those free wallpapers. And upon knowing it he was like a hungry dog that immediately went to his prey to eat it. He searched the net for various sites who offered anime wallpapers. His favorite Naruto computer wallpaper was replaced daily by other free desktop backgrounds and free desktop wallpapers he saved from different internet sites. He was already becoming an addict of free wallpapers. He started bragging to his friends his new collections of wallpapers almost every week. It made him feel like he had and edge among his classmates and friends.

It was a very nice outcome that my nephew loved my introduction to him of these anime wallpapers. I always thought that he would love the idea of these anime images and pictures just like I loved them from the start. So if you want to be like my cousin and be influenced with the offerings of these sites, try using their wallpapers and listen more to what I have to say. You will be really amazed how these computer wallpapers will be able to transform your desktop into trendy ones. Believe me when I say that even young children will be captures by these wallpapers and backgrounds especially when the pictures there are cartoon or anime characters. They will surely look and ask for more of these amazing computer backgrounds and designs.

Naruto - Rise of Ninja Review

Believe it! An absurd blonde hair style and tattered orange clothing could signify only one thing: Naruto.

Naruto: Rise of Ninja is an Xbox 360 exclusive video game that features the eccentric Naruto. This game comes from the same video game company that was responsible for games like Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. Since the game takes numerous aspects from the television show, the plot in the game parallels the television show.

Gamers will have an opportunity to witness the Hidden Leaf Village and view scenery that is eerily reminiscent to the cartoon. The gameplay in this game is a combination of both role playing and action. Players will comprehend how to talk to other civilians, bolster attributes, buy equipment and accessories, and accomplish mission objectives. At the beginning of the game, Naruto is somewhat of an outcast. He wants to become a Hokage, but Naruto fails miserably.

In an effort to strengthen his self-esteem, he seeks to lend a helping hand to others in need of assistance. When you progress through the game, more and more pedestrians will admire your performance. There are two mission types in the game. One type is the core objectives that further the storyline, and the others are the optional side quests. The majority of the gameplay in the game entails platform jumping and fighting. Both the fighting and platform jumping elements in the game are done in a cohesive fashion. For instance, the combat emulates the Jutsu maneuvers that are prevalent in the cartoon. These techniques include summoning an attractive woman and cloning himself.

The techniques varies depending on the characters on the screen. The fight sequences range from the rudimentary button presses to some fairly intricate button combinations that require timing. Moreover, there certain attacks that can only be performed based on the distance of the foes and the situation. This game has a well rounded fighting scheme that is engrossing. The platform jumping segments in the game are also well balanced. Naruto: Rise of Ninja is a challenging game that does not treat gamers like they are a bunch of immature children. The game does have its arduous moments, but they can be easily overcome with perseverance.

I felt like the game developers were paying an homage to previous games in this same genre. In addition to the main gameplay, there are some mini games to play. For example, Naruto can partake in a racing mini game that tests his running ability. All of the skills that you will master is given at just the most opportune time. The game does a fantastic job of pacing you through the gameplay by keeping you interested throughout. There is the enormous gratification of defeating a boss and the disappointment of losing to an opponent.

Naruto: Rise of Ninja does not skimp on the amount of content either. This game should take approximately fifteen hours to finish from start to end. There is some online multiplayer that incorporates a Tournament mode, and it even tracks statistics for players via Xbox Live. However, the Xbox Live online support is not the true bulk of the game. The graphics in the game does an accurate job of representing the tone of the cartoon.

All of the architecture has a Japanese appearance to them, and the environments are representative of the television show. Cel-shading was used in this game as well as it was in games such as X-Men Legends and X-Men Legends 2. Gamers will actually feel like they are immersed in an episode of Naruto. It is just a breathe of fresh air to see something different from the typical next generation visuals the Xbox 360 has to offer. The audio in the game is about as grandiose as the graphics. You will hear all the characters from the cartoon reprising their roles in this game, and the music added some personality the gameplay. Overall, Naruto: Rise of Ninja might not necessarily be for everyone. Nevertheless, avid enthusiasts of Naruto will be entertained.

Final Verdict: Naruto: Rise of Ninja is a good game.

Naruto - The Anime Dreamer

Well, this is an amazing story based on the Japanese manga. The characterizations are rich and the plot is excellently developed , though it may be slightly predictable. This is the true story of an underdog - Naruto, recognized by no one and hated by everyone for possessing no ninja skills and a demon fox trapped inside him.

When Naruto was born the spirit of a evil nine-tailed fox was imprisoned within him, rendering him the hate of the villagers in the ninja-village of the Leaf who feared the demon in him. Countering this hate he grew into the role of the clown, trying to attract attention by making a fool of himself and his teachers. Everyday he does nothing but cause mischief and making Iruka-sensei mad. And above all, it's doubtful that he'll be able to graduate from the Academy. But Naruto has a dream.... Within him dwells the dream of becoming Hokage- the strongest warrior of the village. A dream that he'll become the head of the Ninja village, following Hokage and will become the best ninja around.

Even with Iruka's help, Naruto just barely defeats Mizuki. Knowing Naruto's secret, Iruka knows Naruto will meet someone who'll help him and so, makes a decision. Naruto is allowed to graduate safely from Ninja Academy. Along with his classmates, Uchiwa Sasuke and Haruno Sakura together, they make their first step as Ninjas!

This wonderful Japanese anime is a tribute to the amazing attribute inherent in everyone of us. It tells about friendship, loyalty, courage and unselfishness. It covers arrogance and deception. It is a journey of varying emotions.

Creating Characters For Children's Graphic Novels

While the world of book publishing has been experiencing all sorts of staggering jolts of late-stores closing, staff cuts at major publishing houses, the conversion to eBooks and e-readers-one of the few bright spots has been the emergence of the graphic novel category. Despite what some misinformed parents may believe, graphic novels are not books focused on salacious activities. Graphic novels are basically comics in book form. They can be collections of classic comic strips, or comic book series, all-new comics stories, or even non-fiction in comics form. Until recently, bookstores had just two sections devoted to graphic novels-the clearly labeled Graphic Novels section and the Manga (collections of Japanese comics, usually in thick, black and white paperback editions) section. Since graphic novels are created for readers of all ages, a Children's Graphic Novel section is the newest space being carved out on the bookshelves.

Writers and artists of comics, especially the formula-driven super-hero variety, looking to find new work in this new category often assume that editors are simply looking for simpler, or dumbed-downed versions of existing comic book titles. Fortunately for us, they're sadly mistaken. Comics and graphic novels for children are perhaps just as demanding, if not more so than most mainstream superhero titles. That's because children are looking for imaginative material that appeals to them on many levels-compelling storylines, fun characters, and colorfully fantastic artwork.

In many ways, kids are looking for the same types of characters found in most other books created especially for children. Not surprisingly, boys enjoy boy characters, girls enjoy girl characters, and both boys and girls enjoy stories featuring boys and girls. Of course, there's far more to it than that, and we hope to offer you several insights on creating characters for children's graphic novels.

Like anything creative, the first rule is that there are no rules. It's really subjective. All any article of this type can hope to do is give you an understanding of what already exists and perhaps offer the conventional wisdom of the day. But anything can, and often does happen. The creators of Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, created the Man of Steel from their personal fantasies, and were passionate about the character, while Batman creator Bob Kane was more focused on creating a successful property that would make him rich. So, while it's far nobler sounding to encourage you to pursue that character of your dreams, which may embody many of your personal visions and ideas, it's true that great characters can also be created somewhat cynically, or even by accident. In some cases, characters can even be created as parodies of existing properties or celebrities, which then go on to become hits on their own-such as Miss Piggy being inspired by Miss Peggy Lee or Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles being a parody of a run of Daredevil comics by Frank Miller.

One of the most successful graphic novels created for children is Jeff Smith's Bone. Like most popular properties, the characters in Bone are involved in an epic quest, not unlike the quests in Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. Yet the latest sensation in Children's Graphic Novels is Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, which is far more grounded in the everyday reality of childhood. While at first glance these two series may appear totally different in every way-the larger than life fantasy elements of Bone, the mundane reality of Wimpy Kid; the lush graphics of Bone, the stick-figure-like art style of Wimpy Kid-they're both still about characters off on metaphorical journeys or real quests that capture the attention of a young audiences.

Does it matter that the Bone characters are neither children nor human? Of course not. What matters is that the characters are recognizable types that children easily recognize, understand, and like. Which brings us to the question of how does one create such characters? Perhaps the real question should be-how does one tell a story that will captivate a young audience? Most of the greatest children's fiction characters are little more than simple, almost seeming one-dimensional, characters that are there to represent the reader as he goes on a fantastic journey. Whether you're Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland, you are experiencing the story through that character. When Nancy Drew solves a mystery, the reader is secretly a sleuth. When Hannah Montana transforms into a pop star, the reader is right onstage beside her.

But how does this relate to the world of graphic novels? Unlike prose fiction, which despite descriptions of lead characters' physicality, a reader is still free to project themselves into the role of the protagonist, graphic novels actually show exactly what the story's lead character looks like (although, the stick-figure drawing style of Wimpy Kid and the amorphous blob-like creatures in Bone allows for reader identification in a sly way) and it's important that readers respond positively to the character's depiction. Fortunately, cartoon characters are usually quite lovable. Generally, the main character is usually more of an every kid-not too outstanding in any obvious way, unless it's something that one would ordinarily consider a flaw of some sort. The character may have a special skill or power, but it may not be obvious from simply looking at the character.

While most cartoon characters seem to always wear the same clothes every day of their four-color lives, comic book and graphic novel characters aren't that different. Characters such as Tintin or Geronimo Stilton may change their clothes to suit their ever-changing environments, but they'll soon revert back to their traditional garb at the first opportunity.

But clothes alone don't make memorable children's graphic novel characters. Quite often there is something unique visually to set the characters apart. It could be a physical feature, or even the distinctive style of the artist drawing the character. Obviously, it helps if the visual distinction is meaningful to the character, such as the lightning bolt scar on Harry Potter's forehead, but it could just be a distinctive hairstyle, as is the case with characters such as Bart Simpson, Naruto, Charlie Brown, Archie Andrews or Tintin.

Naturally, it helps if the character is designed to fit the types of stories you hope to tell. A character designed to be a competitive swimmer, for example, should feature something that would make him or her stand out against other swimmers, but in a way that's not unbelievable or too cartoony - unless the series itself is intended to be over-the-top. A compatible art style also makes sense. For a dramatic series, you don't want the characters to appear unbelievably cartoony, and likewise, you wouldn't want a humorous character to look too serious.

Theoretically, your character could be anything. If you happen to be an expert on rocks, and think you could do stories about a character who is actually a rock-go for it! No matter who your main character is, you'll still want the character to be identifiable, and able to get into as many compelling adventures as possible. If you've secretly been hoping to do a series of graphic novels about your pet dog, an historic figure as a child, or about a light bulb-there's no reason you can't do it; no rulebook that says such ideas are not allowed. Although you may want to do a search online to see if your character's name isn't already taken - you don't want to waste time creating a character that already exists.

The true creative challenge is to put together your graphic novel, either by yourself or working with an artist or a writer, and create a story that excites your chosen audience. An easy way to see if you're heading in the right direction is to put together a presentation for a group of children you hope will enjoy your graphic novel. You probably won't need more than a few sample covers and a few completed story pages. If kids respond to the character in a favorable way, and love the stories you've created, you're on the right track. You'll find no other first readers who will be as candid and as honest as a child. You'll know instantly whether they're bored or excited.

Creating characters isn't easy. And creating your character is just the first step. And it should be noted, that there is no market for characters in and of themselves. Publishers buy books, not ideas-so you need to put the whole graphic novel together before approaching a publisher. And after you've written and drawn your children's graphic novel, the really hard part begins-finding a publisher (unless you intend to publish it yourself). Comics and graphic novel publishers are bombarded by new submissions all the time. Some even refuse to look at new material to avoid potential legal trouble-for example, a publisher may already be working on a project similar to yours, and if they look at yours before theirs is published, you may assume they stole your idea and sue them.

But selling a graphic novel is a whole 'nother story. Creating a Children's Graphic Novel character is an exciting challenge. If you succeed and go on to create a Children's Graphic Novel character (and series) that becomes a classic in the field, the rewards can be greater than you can possibly imagine. The opportunity is real, the competition is great, but if you have that special magical character that generations of children are sure to love, then by all means, get to work, and do it!

All About Anime, Manga, And Western Animation

The word anime is almost synonymous with Japanese culture, where it is as much a part of society as the newspaper or magazine. Most anime are actually derived from their manga (comic) counterparts, and the word is basically an abbreviation of animation, but specifically cartoon or comic animation. In fact, manga is a very popular form of literature in Asian countries, and a lof of manga titles are actually have a historical or contemporary flavour to it.

However, it might surprise many to know that there is not a lot of differences between Western and Eastern animation. Both share many common techniques and approaches, but perhaps Western animations have been trending towards using more sophisticated technology. Many of the most famous creators of anime still prefer to do things using the traditional methods, and are less reliant on computers and technology.

The biggest difference between the two styles of anime are probably the types of genres explored in the animation, and some of the peculiar features that are only found in Eastern animation.

Since anime and manga is such a big part of Eastern culture (you can find manga book shops everywhere in countries such as Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan), it tends to be more broad in the topics covered. Themes such as sports, relationships, history, military, political, humour and medicine or science have all been the subject of anime. In fact, there is probably an anime or manga for just about anything that you can think of. However, Western culture seem to be very specific with its animations, and tend to focus on heroes and villians, actions and consequences.

Some of the most interesting features of Asian anime is the use of dialogues within the dialogues. That is, as a particular scene is unfolding, there will be commentary from the characters within the animation providing a third person perspective from people involved in the plot. Also, the interplay between imaginary and real-life is often strong, with characters able to take words out of their speech bubble, or pull out various instruments from empty space.

To give you a taste of Japanese anime, and understand soem of the things we've been talking about, have a look at some of the most popular Japanese: Naruto, Blackjac, Eyeshield 21, Slam Dunk. If there is something you are interested in, you will almost certainly find an anime or manga that covers the topic. So why not take a look in your favourite bookstore today, you never know just what you'll discover.
